We wrapped up our first school-wide seminar last week. In this seminar, classes read the story, The Me I Choose to Be by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley and discussed the ideas and values of identity, empowerment, and self-worth. Students answered the question “Who do you choose to be?” for the post seminar activity. Ask your child about this exciting and engaging learning experience.
James Bowling’s Brass Band Bazaar Returns September 24
It’s back! Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 24, 2022, for the return of James Bowling’s Brass Band Bazaar in the heart of Sylvan Park. This FREE neighborhood festival recalls the founding of Sylvan Park, circa 1900, when a brass band and cannon fire heralded the establishment of what was then Nashville’s newest neighborhood. The event is named in honor of Sylvan Park’s original founder, James Bowling.
Come and join us from 10a.m.-5p.m. at 45th Ave. and Murphy Rd. for music, food, local artisans, and fun for the whole family. More info: brassbandbazaar.com
A Successful PTO in the Park
Thank you to all who joined us at PTO in the Park last Thursday! It was great to see so many Sylvan Park families out together on a nice evening!
Only 2.5 Weeks Left to Reach Our Fun Run Goal!
We are over halfway to reaching our goal with 2.5 weeks left to donate! There are only two popsicle party weeks left to win your child’s classroom a party. Your Fun Run donations will be used to create a student hardship fund, ensuring that all Panthers have access to shopping at the book fair, field trips, and uniforms. Funds will also go to the purchase of a color printer and will bring unique arts experiences and assemblies to our school. Click here to donate today! You can also donate via cash or check by sending your donation directly to school!
First Paideia Seminar
Between September 6-16th, students will participate in our first school-wide seminar. For this seminar, we are reading the story The Me I Choose to Be by Natasha Anastasia Tarpley and discussing the ideas and values of identity, empowerment, and self-worth. Ask your child about this exciting and engaging learning experience!
So Long, Summer! Bash at Richland Park

Thank You For Your Help!
Thanks to all the parents who donated items for last week’s Stock the Lounge event! We are always excited to show our appreciation to our amazing staff and we couldn’t do it without our amazing families!
Fun Run Goals By Grade
Hopefully last week’s Special Edition Newsletter provided a lot of great information on the Fun Run, our goal, and sponsorship opportunities. Big thanks to those who have donated so far! Kindergarten is leading all the other grades and hopefully you’re hearing from your student if they won a popsicle party last week! There are still 3 weeks to win before the run!
Starting next week we’ll be more focused on working towards our classroom goals. The goal for most grades is $8,000. Winners last week were based on sheer volume, so it’s working together as a community with both large and smaller donations that’s truly making a difference. We just ask that you do what you can and know that we appreciate ALL of you!
If you have any questions about the campaign or the Fun Run itself, we’ll be at the PTO in the Park event on the 15th, so look for us and we’re happy to answer whatever questions you have!
Calling All Sponsors!
We are still accepting sponsorships for this year’s Fun Run! If you own a business or know someone who does that would be interested in sponsoring this year, please email pto.spark.fundraising@gmail.com to learn more about donor benefits.
Popsicle Party!
You may have heard your kids talking about the friendly competition for fundraising within their grade. Each week, one class per grade with the highest donations for that week will win a popsicle party. Bragging rights are always better when accompanied by a cool treat. Donating today can help your child win a popsicle party for their classroom!
We Can Do It!
We are well on our way to meeting our goal of $60,000 with a little over a month to go. This is the one time of year that we make an ask of every member of our school community. The funds raised during this time will contribute to the following uses:
- Create a student hardship fund that supports students with financial need with things like purchasing standard school attire as well as helps ensure all SPE students can participate in field trips, the book fair, etc. This way everyone feels like they belong at SPE regardless of their financial background.
- Do some basic classroom enhancements that support our kids’ education. For example, the kindergarten teachers really need a color printer!
- Lastly, we want to fund some more exciting student experiences for every student that would expose them to fun things. For example, going to the Nashville Symphony or even bringing them to us!
Sylvan Park Fun Run 2022!
August 26th marked the beginning of our annual Fun Run fundraising period. At the end of our campaign period, all kids will participate in a walk/run during recess and have a party to celebrate the conclusion of the fundraising event. Students will also receive a free Fun Run t-shirt to wear the day of the race that can be worn as SSA (standard school attire) throughout the year!
Thank You, Grandparents!
Thank you for the great turnout at Grandparents & Granola! We loved seeing everyone there supporting our students!
